Author Vanzell Cassel

Author Vanzell Cassel, 60 years old of Russellville, AL. passed away July 14, 2021 at his residence. 

Visitation will be Friday, July 16, 2021, beginning at Noon at Tharptown Friendship Holiness Church. Funeral will be Saturday, July 16, 2021 at Noon at Tharptown Friendship Holiness Church with Bro. Wayne Dotson officiating. Burial will be in Tharptown Friendship Holiness Cemetery.

Vanzell was born June 8, 1961, in Franklin County, AL to W.T. and Mildred Cassel.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his siblings, Dwight Weeks and Linda Weeks; his niece Megan Garrett; and his grandparents, Author and Mattie Borden and Frank and Ethel Cassel.  

Vanzell is survived by his wife, Janice Renee Cassel; his siblings, Roger Cassel (Jean), Dennis Cassel (Teresa), Melinda Jean Cassel Green (Henry), and Sondra Pauline Cassel Fuller (Neal); his brother-in-law, Keith Gilbert (Susan); his nieces and nephews, Jerri Cassel Eckley (Kade), Charles “Buddy” Cassel, Denise “Sissy” Cassel Willingham (Jimmy), Matt Green (Macy), Cody Garrett, Caitlin Green, Alex Gilbert (Dorothy), and Katie Gilbert; great nieces and nephews, Megan, Bentley, Arriah, Zoey, Aubrey, Kaylee, Bentley White, and Mia; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Pallbearers will be Matt Green, Farion Borden, Cody Garrett, Charles Cassel, Rodney Borden, Chris Borden, Thomas Wayne Murray, Mark Hall, and Adam Borden.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Shoals Hospice especially, Brandy, Kristi, Heather, Ashley, and Lisa. They would also like to thank all the aunts, uncles, cousins, friends in the community, and churches that brought food and money to our family.
